Transcendental Meditation has many practical benefits including reduced anxiety, increased happiness, better sleep, more harmonious personal relationships, improved focus and concentration. Plus it also has positive measurable societal benefits such as reduced crime. You become a positive force for improvements of the collective consciousness of the country and ultimately World Peace. All these benefits have been validated by over 380 scientific research studies published in reputable peer review scientific journals over the last 50 years.
There are 3 categories of meditation identified by EEG research:
▪ Focused attention (concentrating on an object or emotion) — This category
includes meditations from the Tibetan Buddhist (loving kindness and
compassion), Buddhist (Zen and Diamond Way), and Chinese (Qigong)
traditions. These procedures give rise to beta/gamma activity in the brain —
seen during any active cognitive processing or control of the mind.
▪ Open monitoring (being mindful of one’s breath or thoughts) — This
category includes meditations from the Buddhist (Mindfulness, and ZaZen),
Chinese (Qigong), and Vedic (Sahaja Yoga) traditions. During practice of
these procedures, the brain displays theta activity — seen when reflecting
on mental concepts.
▪ Automatic self-transcending (meditations that transcend their own activity).
This category includes the Transcendental Meditation® technique. It
produces frontal alpha 1 coherence, which characterises the state of inner
wakefulness. Higher coherence indicates the brain’s prefrontal cortex, its
“CEO” or “executive control center” is functioning in an integrated manner.
A Transcendental Meditation course typically runs for 60-90 minutes per session over 4 consecutive days, plus 6 months of included follow up sessions, no matter how many you need. But usually people are up and running and feeling the benefit within the 4 days of initial instruction.
Please note that the Introductory Talk is always FREE and should you attend one, you are under no obligation to take a course.
